What Do You Want from Life?

What do you want from life? Do you want what God wants? Do you want to walk with God today? Do you want to live with Him forever? How will you go about getting what you want from life?

That is a good question. Many times we pursue elusive dreams . . . with little idea of what we really want. We want something . . . but we don’t know what.

Do you know that Someone wants to give you the best you can have in life?

Who could that be?

God!

God wants us to be joyful, not sad and confused. He wants us to be joyful forever. Read on to learn what God wants to give you.

  1. God wants you to know Him personally.

What could be better than to know God as an intimate friend? God has said, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me” (Revelation 3:20).

How wonderful it would be to have such a relationship with God!

God wants to be your loving Father. He wants you to be His child. In one of His promises He says, “I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters” (2 Corinthians 6:17–18).

God’s desire is “that we might receive the adoption of sons. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ” (Galatians 4:5, 7).

Do you wonder why we do not have this kind of relationship with God?

  1. We are separated from God because of sin.

The first man, Adam, sinned. We all have sinned. We all have rebelled against God and disobeyed Him. The Bible says, “There is none righteous, no, not one, . . . for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:10, 23).

Sin separates us from God. The Bible says, “But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you” (Isaiah 59:2).

Sin leaves us unhappy and disappointed. Our sinful lives lack purpose and peace. And sin condemns us to death. The Bible says, “The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). “The soul that sinneth, it shall die” (Ezekiel 18:4).

Death. That is not what we want. We want security and hope for a happy future. We want life . . . but face death.

Do you know that God has an answer to our problem?

  1. Jesus Christ died to reconcile us to God.

God loved us enough to rescue us from the doom of death. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to build a bridge between us and Him. The Bible says, “There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5).

Jesus gave His life on the cross. His body was made a sacrifice for sin for us. He died for us. The Bible says, “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace” (Ephesians 1:7).

Christ is the only way to life and security. He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6).

Alone we cannot approach God because we all are sinners. Even doing good deeds will not erase the sins we have committed. The Bible says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8–9).

What then must we do?

  1. We must believe on Jesus and do what He says.

First, we need to recognize our problem—sin.

Next, we must believe that only Jesus can help us.

“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” (John 1:12).

Then, as God’s children, by God's power we stop sinning. We stop doing what we want and start doing what God wants.

“Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 3:19).

When we repent, we want to obey Jesus. We serve Him and follow Him. And we read the Bible to find out what He wants us to do.

“If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me” (Matthew 16:24).

If you will serve Jesus with all your heart, the following Bible promises are for you.

“He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life” (1 John 5:12).

“And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him” (1 John 2:3–4).

What do you want from life? Do you want what God wants? Do you want to walk with God today? Do you want to live with Him forever?

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
